Leadership Lessons from the National Outdoor Leadership School (Professional Development)

Frank Pisch, a nationally recognized fundraising authority and the past Board Chair at N.O.L.S., shares some valuable insights from the wilderness that have meaning for the present day advancement professional.  You won’t want to miss this “natural” presentation with universal leadership application. In the early years of higher education, advancement work had a very simple mission, "To create a society of alumni so that the influence and patronage of those that it had educated may be united for support and protection and improvement of the institution." -Williams College

Today, we hear our customers requesting simple consistent messages and clear responses to their requests because they perceive the institution as ONE, not as the diversified conglomerates we have created. We can ignore our customer needs and remain in our "silos" or we can embrace these consumer comments by reaching out and creating an environment of collaborative advancement efforts. Thomas GrahamThomas Graham is President, Pepco Region for Pepco Holdings, Inc. Over his 19-year career, Graham has held leadership positions that include Regional Vice President, Manager Strategic Accounts and Manager Billing Services & Investigations. In these assignments, he has been responsible for engineering design, customer relationship management, unplanned outage support, billing resolution, supplier support, revenue protection and energy-use management programs for Pepco’s residential, small commercial and largest commercial customers. He was also responsible for the design, implementation and management of Pepco’s Customer Advisory Board, Trade Ally Program and Community Partnership Program. The Community Partnership Program has recently received two industry excellence awards from the Edison Electric Institute and Southeastern Electric Exchange. Graham is a graduate of the University of Tampa and the Georgetown University executive leadership.

Etiquette for the 21st Century (Professional Development)

Proper dining etiquette is a necessary prerequisite skill that all advancement professionals should be up to speed on.   This informative and interesting session will offer a refresher course that will take the guess work out of which utensil should be used in certain situations.  Questions and Answers and a pop quiz may or may not be sprung upon us.  Lisa Blackburn has been an Aramark specialist for the last ten years.  She is a frequent guest speaker on many campuses in the Southeast and has been a favorite of college seniors and alums in preparing them for career interview over lunch or dinner.
